〜うちに: while / before it changes
Structure
V-ている/adjectif/[Nom] の + うちに
Explanation
うちに frames an action inside a window that will close: あたたかい うちに 食べてください “eat it while it's warm (before it gets cold)”. With a negative, 〜ないうちに means “before…”: くらくならない うちに かえりましょう “let's go home before it gets dark”. Unlike あいだに (neutral time span), うちに implies the window is precious.
Examples
あたたかい うちに 食べてください。
Please eat it while it's still warm.
あかちゃんが ねている うちに、そうじを しました。
I did the cleaning while the baby was asleep.
