Explanation
うちに frames an action inside a window that will close: あたたかい うちに 食べてください “eat it while it's warm (before it gets cold)”. With a negative, 〜ないうちに means “before…”: くらくならない うちに かえりましょう “let's go home before it gets dark”. Unlike あいだに (neutral time span), うちに implies the window is precious.
