AのほうがBより: comparison

Structure

A のほうが (B より) + adjectif

Explanation

Japanese adjectives have no comparative form. Instead, のほうが marks the winner and より the loser: でんしゃのほうが バスより はやいです “the train is faster than the bus”. Either half can be dropped when obvious. The question uses どちら: どちらが すきですか “which do you prefer?”.

Examples

The train is faster than the bus.

I like winter better than summer.
